LANCERS attach sentimental value to many things — whether it’s a piece of jewelry, a lucky charm, or even an article of clothing. Anything can hold meaning. It can be something worn every day, something saved for special occasions, or something kept for challenging times. These sentimental items can also be something that an individual takes special care of and never touches.
A sentimental piece of jewelry is usually inherited and passed down through generations — even from before parents were born. That doesn’t lessen its value; in fact, its value often increases. But as mentioned, it can also be something kept safe and rarely touched.
Some Lancers have more than one sentimental item, each with its own meaning and personal significance.
Kaylee Gonzalez Blanco (12) says that she has more than one sentimental item. “I do have a piece of jewelry that is sentimental — my baptism necklace that was given to me when I was a newborn from my Godparents, and it was washed in holy water,” Blanco said.
However, Blanco said that her most sentimental item is her late dog’s collar. “I consider my late dog’s collar my most sentimental piece. I kept it after he passed away; I have it framed in a glass box that still has his name on it, and it carries the scratch marks from him trying to bite it off,” Blanco said. That’s a very special way of remembering her dog.
There are also Lancers who value each and every piece of jewelry they own. For example, Victor Sandoval (11) says that he considers his bracelets and his necklaces to be sentimental items. “I mean the necklace has value because Sarahi, my girlfriend, gave it to me. It was one of the first gifts she gave to me when we first started dating,” Sandoval said.
“As for the bracelets, they were given to me by people that I care about and are close to me. Like my mom, my friends, and my girlfriend,” Sandoval said. Sandoval also mentioned that he never takes them off unless he has to, “I like to think of these things like good luck charms, so I only take them off when I shower,” Sandoval said.
Johana Cardiel (10) says that her dad gave her a necklace that she considers a sentimental item. “Well, an item that I own that is important to me is my necklace, because my dad bought it as a gift for me to keep, and I haven’t taken it off since,” Cardiel said.
Parents’ gifts are something I believe everyone cherishes. As Cardiel mentions, her gift was given by her dad, and that’s what makes it special. “My necklace is silver with rhinestones, and it’s shaped like a cross. I really value it because it’s from my dad and it means a lot to me,” Cardiel said.
Most Lancers have valuable items that they like to protect. Whether it’s in a tiny crystal box, or just kept close at all times, it is sentimental, and something that will forever be protected. Friends, family, pets, and partners can all play important roles in inspiring sentimental items.
