GRADUATION is on a Wednesday for the class of 2025!
Many people don’t know about this. “I didn’t know Graduation was on a Wednesday, it isn’t a special day, it’s a random day in the middle of the week, it doesn’t seem like a day of celebration,” Diego Garcia (12) said.
Many other Lancers feel the same disappointment as Tanner P’ea (12). “I don’t like it, that’s not even a question I prefer it being on a Friday, Friday’s always been graduation so keep it that way,” he said.
Actually, in the last four years, Granger’s graduation was on a Thursday, a Wednesday, and two Fridays — it depends on what the Maverik Center has open.
A mid-week graduation ceremony make it difficult to celebrate — Wednesday just isn’t fun like a Friday. “I think that it’s bad that people wanna party later that day & someone can’t do that since it’s on a weekday…it also takes away from the point of going straight into the weekend to party or to do whatever to celebrate that special day,” Ruben Robles (12) said.
Furthermore, when people look back at graduation they will find it interesting how the whole class of 2025 graduated on a Wednesday while other classes graduated on a Friday. “Us graduating on a Wednesday is lame. I think they could’ve done a way better job of planning out the day…I don’t think Graduation should be on hump day,” Kris Bonilla (12) said.
However, graduating on a Wednesday could also open up interesting possibilities. While students express disappointment over graduating on Wednesday over Friday, a Wednesday graduation could create a calmer atmosphere. People may actually take this time to go out to eat with their families, friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc.
Push back all the celebrations to the weekend. Another advantage may be that anyone looking for a venue will find it to be less crowded, making it seem as a very special day. Ultimately, while a Wednesday graduation might feel unconventional, it encourages students and families to create meaningful memories in their own way. This unique scheduling could lead to reminding everybody it’s not just the weekend parties that matter, but how they celebrate the accomplishment together.
