Have you ever wondered how much Granger High has changed and what differences it has made on students and teachers over these past few years? Granger has a total of 3,463 attending students. The counselors at Granger are also an amazing team working together to get students on track.
“I really like the changes as well as the upgrades we’ve had and a clean building. It’s nice to have a safe place to come to,” Mr. Babcock said.
Ms. McMillan, a new assistant principal at Granger, was asked about whether or not Yondr pouches would be effective. She then said “Yes I think, a lot of teachers have come forward and said that they haven’t gotten this far along in assignments in such a short amount of time, the grades this year are already much higher than they were last year.”
As for what students think, Kevin Menjivar (11) stated, “The pouches are okay, I wish they would only have them in use during class and not passing period and lunch.” He continued, “I feel like it’s so inconvenient and takes away the time we want for ourselves. Not everyone wants to socialize with everyone and would much rather be alone but I mean it’s good for class, I finally started seeing people do their work.”
So far the Yondr pouches have been the biggest change Granger has had this year. Last year (2023-24) they also had a big change as well by principal Dr. Howe asking staff to set alarms on all the side doors but the main entrance. Some students were questioned about how they felt about the doors having alarms on them. One of the students was Monse Gonzalez (11), “I feel like the alarms were a good and bad thing. They were a good thing because now it lets the front office know who goes through them. I also think it was a good idea because the school’s security has gotten better since Dr. Howes first year here. The only thing is that kids that take the bus used to leave through the east side doors but since they’re locked now they have to go through the front which makes them more crowded than they were before.”
The main reason they locked the doors was to try to stop the students from skipping class and as well for security reasons. Another difference that Granger had is a change in staff for the year 2024-25 they have a new principal and some new admin. Hopefully the students at Granger have a good rest of the year, especially those graduating seniors.
