FOR JOSE Rodriguez (12), school seems to be a pretty big priority, so he tries to focus on using school time to get his work done without it cutting into his free time. “I do my work in class, so I have no missing work. I talk to my teachers if I need help. I always try to be on time.” he said. This is a good way to keep those grades up while working.
Another working student, Achilles Perez (12) is also on top of his schoolwork “I try to do my work ASAP! No procrastinating is what helps me get it done.”
It’s a bit complicated to maintain a GPA while working because sometimes work can really get in the way of school. Students must learn a lot of balance to manage shifts and also school and homework. They might even have to stay after school at times to get things done.
One student who does this is Ruben Robles (12). “I stay after school if I need to, and I always sleep early so I’m ready to learn in the morning.” he said.
Kris Bonilla (12) agrees that school is a big priority. “I dedicate an entire day to do homework only, and I make sure to not let work interfere with school. School should be a main priority for students,” he said.
Luis Aguilera (12) has a similar tactic when it comes to studying. “I always make sure to do my work in class and on time, I avoid procrastination, and I am always paying attention for directions, so I know what to do and have zero questions,” he said.
Working and doing schoolwork both at the same time is really stressful and it can be a lot sometimes. It might be better to strictly focus on just one instead of both. That way the entire focus and energy will be put into what’s more important, which for most students is school.
When people decide to work more than they focus on school it may be good for a while because they get paid, but grades will begin to drop and that’s when things get stressful especially for seniors as they get closer to graduation.
“I think it’s really stressful to maintain my grades and work at the same time because I don’t get enough time to do both. It is really depressing and in my opinion it’s better to focus on one thing at a time,” Bryan Soria (12) said.
Roberto Carlos (12) agrees. “I think it’s complicated, but I always try my best to turn in my assignments on time,” he said.
To maintain good grades, it is much better to just focus on school and worry about a job later. After graduation, all people do is work, so while they´re students, they should worry about their education and make sure that is the main priority.
