SPRING break was the last break before finals and the largely anticipated summer break. The preparation for the end of the school year did not stop students from having some last-minute fun and traveling. From riding around, to visiting the “Happiest Place on Earth” and more, it is good to let loose before the end.
Starting with Christina Neumann (12) who started her break working a couple of days to prepare for her upcoming trip. Neumann’s trip was in the southern part of Utah, in Moab. From there, she went with a couple of friends and shared a hotel room. During their outings, they went cliff jumping and it was mostly safe. However, there was a close call, as Neumann nearly broke her leg while jumping down.
But overall, she rated the experience an 8.5/10. “I did not like getting sunburnt, and it still lasts today,” Neumann said on the April 21. If the break were longer, Neumann said that she would have spent more time working.
Since the trip was mostly out of pocket, a lot of money went towards the gas, the hotel, food, and snacks. She said, “It was worth it.” During the break, Neumann did not get much rest or sleep, but she is ready to graduate.
In another Utah location, Justice Bowman (11) had an eventful break. Bowman did a variety of activities. For example, she rode bikes with her best friend at Daybreak and had a picnic. Another day she attended a cousin’s birthday party. Although she did not leave the state, for her it was overall good, “I had fun,” Bowman said.
If she had more time to go around and do other stuff, she would have hung out a lot more with her best friend. She said she’d most likely be going out over the weekend and had “more plans to go somewhere.”
But when she returned, one thing on her mind was clear. “Devastated. I’m done with school and just want to get it over with,” Bowman said. Still, she feels a bit more relaxed knowing it’s almost over—though that also means everything needs to get finished. “I gotta lock in,” Bowman said.
Finally, the West—California. Bibiana Estrada (10) spent her entire break visiting the state and checking out a few major landmarks. She went to the beach and hung out with her family but also visited Disneyland and Universal Studios.
When asked if the break should’ve been longer, Estrada said the timing was perfect. If it had been extended, she admitted she probably would’ve just stayed home. Still, she called it a reasonable break. Echoing Bowman’s mindset, she added, “Unlike last time, it’s time to lock in.” Estrada also pointed out that some Fridays off from school will help carry her through to the end of the year.
