MARVEL’S newest movie is “Captain America: Brave New World,” which was released on February 14. But, with the current state of Marvel, you have to do a little homework to understand some newer movies. There have been many changes and events within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s necessary to know about some things to understand.
The first thing to mention is that you need to know a little bit about Hulk-related characters. Because “The Incredible Hulk” movie introduced a variety of characters that show up in the new movie — most importantly General Ross and Samuel Sterns. Samuel Stern got some Hulk blood in a head wound and grew a larger brain.
This means that he can calculate very easily and make high-level plans which tie into the movie. Along with Thaddeus Ross, who started as a general and made several appearances throughout the MCU, but more importantly, becomes the president and Red Hulk in the newest movie.
Now something to mention is that the Captain America title has been transferred to a variety of people, and Steve Rogers is not the current Captain America. But I will discuss how the current Captain America came to be and what he has done.
Beginning with the first movie, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” introduces the character that eventually becomes Captain America. This movie is the continuation of Steve Roger’s story after the events of “The Avengers,” but more importantly it introduces Sam Wilson or “The Falcon.” Sam Wilson is a supporting character trying to take down the Winter Soldier and Hydra.
This movie also reintroduces Bucky Barnes, now turned the Winter Soldier after Hydra mind-wiped him. His character should be considered when seeing the other films since he is also Steve’s best friend.
Focusing on Sam, Sam helps in different types of battles, from punching and flying to handling mental issues with veterans. Although he is proficient with combat, one thing to notice is the mental issues. Because he helps run a Veteran’s conference, helping people move on and saying what needs to be said to get them to move on.
Then comes “Captain America: Civil War”, which is about a treaty made by Thaddeus Ross for the Avengers, since they had Sokovia city blow up and the civilian casualties related to them. General Ross also wanted anyone who opposed the idea to be put in Raft, a secure prison in the ocean, which was brought up later.
But Sam, during this, decided to side with the people who didn’t want the government to tell them what to do, ironically landing on Captain America’s side. This continues through “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” where they show that Falcon always has Captain America’s back and their similar goals
By the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve takes the stones back and after living his life who he wants. This is the moment when Steve steps down from the role of Captain America. But passes not to his best friend, but to Sam. Because although Bucky is the perfect soldier, Sam is a good man, who has what it takes to lead and fight for what’s right.
Then finally the main point where Sam changes from the Falcon to Captain America. The show “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” continues from the point of Steve passing the shield onto Sam. However, Sam doesn’t feel like he is worthy of carrying on the shield.
He gives it to the U.S. government out of respect for his friend. But the government uses it to only appoint a new Captain America, given to another who served in the army, named John Walker.
From this point, Sam is disappointed by the government and by what John Walker has been doing with the shield. The reason why he’s disappointed is because John ruthlessly beats someone to death and lets his emotions get the better of him. Showing that not anyone can handle being Captain America.
However, since this happened, Sam and Bucky had to take the shield away from him to not stain the memory of what that shield had gone through. So by the end, Sam now realizes that Steve specifically chose him, and he should honor his legacy. Thus by honoring his legacy, he now is the current Captain America.
So now considering the past of Sam Wilson and the brief story regarding General Ross and Samuel Sterns. They plan to tie things together and connect some looser ends around the MCU. Such as solving the mystery of why there is this larger celestial being in the Indian Ocean.
