ON FEBRUARY 14, Drake came back and dropped “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U,” a collaboration album between PND (PartyNextDoor) and Drake that has 21 tracks. Coming from the infamous Drake and Kendrick beef that revived Kendrick’s career, Drake is unbothered from the first track, “CN Tower,” which is a famous building from Toronto, which is most famously known for the building that Drake was sitting on for his album Views.
Drake and PND come with the melodies straight from the first song that for all who know Drake’s intro songs to albums are amazingly made and PND having great melodies to accompany the song, throughout the album you get a lot of vocals that are either coming from Drake or from PND but what makes it better is that they’re both going all in. The second track being “Moth Balls” that comes with a beat switch with background voice saying “I wish somebody would love me” and PND comes in with the slow beat change that compliments his voice, after this track it’s ‘Something About You” which is Drake starting the song fluently, then transitioning into the beat drop where he starts sort of rapping, then PND comes in with his verse and something that stood out to me when he started his verse that I liked about was him saying “All of these songs are for you” with the melodic side of his voice. After this track is “Crying In Chanel” and this is the first song that only Drake sings in, for the most of this song is just Drake having melodies but the last half which he teased before the album releasing is my favorite part of the song mainly because of his voice and the drums on the verse, after that track one of my favorites if not my favorite on the album is “Spider-man Superman” this track is the one that stood out to me the most mainly because of all the things that are going on at once, PND’s verse is great too by the way he enters and the verse just complimenting the beat very well, the part that stood out to me the most was the fact that he sampled “The Real Her” on this song, it made me have to rewind to make sure I listened to it correctly because I didn’t think he would sample his song and left me shocked. After that track is PND’s “Deeper” which as at the first listen I didn’t really like until I started listening to it more and now I do like it, the main thing I like about this song is the catchy chorus, after this was Drake’s “Small Town Fame” where it’s just Drake going at it just upright rapping with drums in the background, with the beat switch out of nowhere where he shouts out Salt Lake which I thought was pretty cool since he canceled his show in 2018 with Migos without a reason. Next up is “Pimmie’s Dilemma” which is a really cool song when I first heard it especially because it really sounded pretty much just like a interlude just that they didn’t decide to name it maybe just because PND and Drake don’t sing at all maybe I’m wrong but I didn’t hear them apart from Pimmie, after this track was “Brian Steel” and this song is really great from the verses that Drake has, especially him just rapping on the beat again gives PND4 a shoutout as well, after that track was “Gimme a Hug” which is also just Drake rapping where he literally says “F that, make the beat switch” and the beat literally drops, another thing I liked is where he shouts out the fans and 21 as well as he’s the only one who checks up on him? He proceeds to say “F a rap beef, I’m tryna get the party lit” which is probably the Kendrick beef which I thought was expected but it was just a meh in my opinion, after that track is Drake’s “Raining in Houston” which is just a slow type of song with a very slow beat where Drake is simply sort of singing/rapping I don’t have a word for it but I liked the song as well. After that song is one of my other favorites on the album, Lasers, which is sort of a slow song with Drake and PND, the verse of PND really stood out to me just because of PND’s voice and vocals that make me enjoy the verse a lot not saying Drake’s verse wasn’t good either because Drake’s verse is really good as well, it was one of my favorites from my first listen. Then it’s “” Meet Your Padre” and I don’t have any comments because it was a meh song even though a lot of people I see enjoy it a lot, I think it’s alright but isn’t terrible either, then it’s “Nokia” and I really liked this song it reminded me of “Rich Baby Daddy” or like “Honestly, Nevermind” type of vibes and I enjoy those projects, then after that track was “Die Trying” and I enjoyed this song as well it was another one of my favorites because of Drake’s verse and chorus, after his verse it’s PND’s verse and his entrance, lyrics, and vocals were amazing, after his verse was Drake’s additional verse and I thought it was amazing as well. After the track is “Somebody Loves Me” which is PND’s entrance that makes me like the song and in the middle of his verse the beat just drops and makes the song even better, when Drake comes on it makes it even more better than it already loves, I enjoyed this song a lot, after “Somebody Loves Me” is “Celibacy” and it’s another song I just thought it was a good song not too much opinion on it as well as “OMW” and “Glorious” I thought those songs were good just didn’t have much to say about them apart that I enjoyed it, then it’s “When He’s Gone” I enjoy the slow aspect of it and the whole vocal side of things I thought it was a good song as well, “Greedy” is an amazing song as well starting with Drake and then PND coming in once again I think this song being chose as the outro was an amazing choice. Finally, my opinion on this album is that I think $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is better than “Dark Lane Demo Tapes.” Definitely. I think this album is more memorable for me than “For All The Dogs” as well. My actual album rankings are: 1. Views, 2. Take Care 3. If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late 4. More Life 5. CLB 6. Thank Me Later 7. Nothing Was The Same 8. So Far Gone 9. $$$4U 10. For All The Dogs 11. Honestly, Nevermind 12. Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
