GRANITE School District is moving some of the boundaries for its high schools, including Granger. Some students have been worried about whether they are going to be able to continue to go to Granger, Fortunatel,y this is only changing the boundaries within three neighborhoods, which is approximately 100 families,s give or take.
According to Aimee Warren, the Granger Council PTA President, the boundaries are moving to relieve the students at Granger. Warren says that there are many reasons for why the boundaries are moving, some being the fact that Granger is overcrowded. Cyprus is going to be able to hold more students, and there will be an increased number of students at each school.
As is quite obvious, Granger is overcrowded and in need of fewer students at the school. However, Cyprus’s large campus will be able to accommodate this new influx of students.
According to Warren, due to charter school students and home school students moving to Granger this year, they did not expect as many students to apply, which led them to accept too many permits. For example, there were many students coming from public charter schools such as American Preparatory Academy into Granger High School.
David Barragan (10) says that he wasn’t too worried when he found out about no longer being in Granger’s boundaries. He also says that he’s not worried about whether he has to go to Hunter because “I’ll learn the same things because it’s just another school,” he said. He says he will miss his friends if he can’t continue at Granger, but he would still meet new people and make new friends at Hunter.
Barragan says students don’t need to worry about whether they are allowed to stay at Granger, and according to Warren, he’s right.
Warren says that the students who already go to Granger (or have/had an older sibling that went to Granger) will have a way higher chance of staying at Granger. Some students thought that it depended on their grades or on how fast they turned in the application or how close they lived to the school. It’s important to understand that they will not be informing people of final enrollment destinations until the summer.
The district will be waiting until after the open enrollment has finally been closed to inform students and guardians. Students who no longer live in Granger’s boundaries but wish to enroll at Granger may apply during an open enrollment in the summer for the 2025-2026 school year on Granger High School’s website or on the Granite School District website.
Students who need further help with enrolling for next year or have some questions about enrolling may set up an appointment with a counselor or meet with Mr. Negley in the main office. Anyone unsure whether they are still in Granger’s boundaries may check the graniteschools.org website.
