WITH FEBRUARY and Valentine’s Day coming up, new crushes and relationships emerge throughout this month. February is considered the month of love, and February 14 is known as the day of love and friendship. It’s not only a day to celebrate romantic relationships, but friendships as well. It reminds people of the importance of human connections to those who make someone feel valued and loved. Many Lancers develop crushes on other students, but they keep it a sneaky secret. It’s common to hear given code names in the hallways when talking about their crushes!
Ramon Mares (10) admitted to having a crush this year! “I started liking her in 8th grade. I thought she was really cool and pretty, but I didn’t see her for some time until this year. I don’t really have a code name for her, I do have a couple of classes with her though. I don’t plan on asking her to be my Valentine this year,” Mares said. He doesn’t plan to spend Valentine’s with his friends and plans to stay at home.
Kelsey Mejia (10) says that she has a very big crush and isn’t scared to show it. “I didn’t just start crushing on them randomly. It took me a while to realize that I did really like her as more than just a friend. I didn’t have a code name for her because I always kept my feelings to myself. We had three classes together in 9th grade and fitness for life this year. We still talk a lot every day. I plan to ask them to be my Valentine this year. I want to make a poster and make her something. There are so many things that made me fall so madly in love with her. But if I had to say, it would be how kind of a person she is towards everyone. Another thing is her enthusiasm for orchestra. She gets frustrated with it at times, but she has so much passion and talent for it,” she said.
