STRESS is something that everyone has had to deal with in a multitude of ways. This is no different with the Lancers at Granger High School, who were panicking as the semester ended. At the end of the semester, a lot of students were worried about their grades and what they were going to do about it. Along with that, some wondered about what was going on, and how they could relieve stress.
Jessica Garcia Alaya (10) mentioned that her main concern was her grades, as her parents would see her grades and decide if she needed a penalty for them. They would specifically take her phone according to Alaya, which would be unfortunate for the winter break. However, Alaya worked hard to keep her grades up and turn in her assignments. She even recommended some advice for the next semester and other students.
“You should lock in before getting an F,” Alaya said. She says that it’s better to get ahead of the curve rather than stay back.
Hailey Wilkins (9) is going along the same lines as Alaya with the worry of grades. The classes she was mainly stressed about were English, Chemistry, and Math. However, she isn’t too stressed about it because of what she does to remove that stress. She is part of the swim team and does stress about being better, but that doesn’t hold her back.
Besides working hard on her assignments, she enjoys talking with others and just taking a break — taking a pause in the chaos to think things over. She also recommends that to others as having some time alone will help.
Sofia Guzman (12) also was stressed during the end of the first semester with all of her advanced classes. This wasn’t helped by the constant finals and projects due, leading to piles of homework. One class that she was stressing more about was her GTI class, the Academy of Finance with accounting and marketing. However, despite her busy schedule, she was able to get through things.
“Talking with others, friends, family, and even myself helps me relax,” Guzman said. But the one piece of advice she recommended to all was this: “Look forward to the final project and talk with others, and don’t keep it all to yourself.”
Angel Marquez (11) has a similar amount of work stress; however, he has a method that helps him stay calm and collected. He mentioned that an organized lifestyle limits that stress and makes things easier. Instead, he should complete work by doing things like a checklist, marking things out, and keeping things clear. But one thing he does suggest for the future is to ask for help. It never hurts to ask for help.
So, in the end, there has been a lot of stress felt by many students at the end of the semester, but students have found ways to relieve that stress and make it through it all. From here, the second semester will induce more stress, so come up with plans, ask questions, and lock in!
