GRANGER High Wrestling team has been known for great athletes and extraordinary wrestlers over the past years. Many Fighting Lancers of Granger have made it as far as state competitions and earned state titles. There have been many wins and losses coming from the Lancers.
One of the athletes making a major impact on the team is Radly Martin (11). Martin is a key member of Granger’s wrestling team. He is one of the few leading this team to victory. He has also achieved many accomplishments throughout past seasons and hopes to earn even more wins as the current season progresses.
As a team leader, Martin can help his teammates improve. He also says the coaches have been a significant influence throughout his journey. Coach Livingston, head coach for both boys and girls wrestling teams, has played an essential role in the team’s success since joining. Many players say Livingston inspires them to improve every day. Under his guidance, the Fighting Lancers have achieved back-to-back state titles.
Much like other wrestlers, Ifo Pili (11) has made a significant impact on the team. Pili, a recent transfer from New Mexico, is a dedicated student-athlete. “The skills these coaches have taught me in the past month are definitely going to reflect on football,” said Pili. Pili strives to become a state champion and contribute another state title to the team.
In recent duels, the Fighting Lancers have been dominating. One standout wrestler is Chase Benson (10). Benson has been wrestling for the past two years and his hard work shows. “As I work my craft, the coaches help and support me to get better every day,” he said.
Although the boys have been excelling, one of the best on the team is Moana Malohifoou (12). In recent years, she has earned multiple region and state titles. Coaches and teammates describe her as a hardworking and supportive teammate. As a returning Fighting Lancer, she has had a significant impact on the squad.
Carlos “Chango” Ruiz (‘23), a Lancer alumnus, has inspired the younger generation. Many juniors and seniors on the team say Ruiz has motivated them to strive for greatness. Ruiz says, “It has been a long time since I was last wrestling on a Granger High mat, but I would definitely go back. I just miss the coaching, my old teammates, and the vibe that was carried on.” Ruiz is now in his second year of wrestling with the Graceland Yellowjackets and is achieving great things there.
The wrestling team of Granger High School holds some of the most regional titles for the school and plans to earn even more. They have been representing Granger High with pride and putting the school on the map.
