Fill those Summer Buckets

SUMMER is coming and Lancers are getting ready with summer bucket lists. A summer bucket list is a list of fun activities that you plan on doing throughout the summer. Summer bucket lists are supposed to be achievable and a fun way to create a to-do list of all your summer adventures. A regular bucket list contains things to accomplish before a certain age.

“I’m working on my summer bucket list right now. I want to go to a fair, vacation to California, and hang out with my friends. Something that is summer bucket list-worthy is going to Lake Tahoe,” Ophelia Nuñez (9) said. She says a vacation is definitely something to a summer bucket list. An activity Nuñez is thinking about doing with her family or friends is going to an outdoor movie night or to a picnic in the park.

A few daytime activities include hiking, camping, and going to the library. A few ideas to do during the nights could be laser tag, stargazing, or a trampoline sleepover. “During the summer, I like to go out and swim or stay in and read,” Rosalyn Rivera (9) said. Water activities are such a fun, summery thing to do whether it’s swimming, going to a waterpark, or water fighting with water balloons or squirt guns.

“I feel like a good inspiration for ideas would be movies, because everyone wants to live like life’s a movie,” Rivera said. Movies make a good addition to any summer bucket list.

“I want to watch all the new movies coming out this summer because they are sequels to a few movies that remind me of my childhood,” Ky Hoang (11) said.

Movies in super-cooled theaters are a summer treat, but reading a book in a shady hammock is another amazing thing to add to a summer bucket list — make a goal of a certain number of books to read during summer. Reading is something worth adding to that summer bucket list.

In fact, spending time outside should be on every summer bucket list. “In the summer, I enjoy going to the beach and camping. I like to connect with nature,” Hoang said. Nature is a good source of endless activities. Kids can do many things in nature alone or with friends. Some ideas of things to do in nature are hiking, fishing, campfires, going to a lake, riding a kayak, and gardening.

Adding something nostalgic is a great idea for a summer bucket list. Some nostalgic ideas are drawing with chalk, going to a waterpark, sleepovers with cousins, and eating fresh fruit after playing outside all day. A summer bucket list doesn’t have a limit, and it should be as long or short as needed. A list is an easy way to stay creative and organized at the same time.

For those who pay close attention to detail, a literal list is something that’s a perfect tool for organization, and it can become an art project of its own. Make one with friends or family to add an extra layer of accountability and inspiration. All that’s needed is creativity! Throw in a few art supplies to make it fun and colorful and write up all those ideas — that summer bucket list will be ready for action.
