GRANGER students competed in an election for next year’s presidency. Candidates put out reasons why they should get votes. These elections are a tradition for Granger, and they also provide a way for students to build social skills and popularity for their upcoming years.
“Running the election is busy, and there is a lot to do. I have to stay focused, stay organized, get all the instructions out in a timely manner, make sure everyone is qualified, and run a fair election,” Mr. Fuller said. It sounds like this election is a very hard thing to run, especially as a teacher.
“If I had a choice to run this election, I probably wouldn’t take it. But it comes with being the SBO advisor. It is important that we have a good school leadership team to guide the school and help everybody be active and involved at Granger High School,” Fuller said.
“I didn’t actually get elected, I was appointed. I believe I was the most hardworking out of everyone I was facing. It was kinda stressful being one of the SBO officers. I spent time doing work for others instead of doing work for myself. Other than that, being an officer is pretty fun and is definitely worth running for,” Sophia Than (12) said. Running for SBO officer early in high school could potentially help Lancers build themselves.
Many officers share their opinions on how they should have run for office earlier in their high school career.
“Running for a spot is pretty fun and exciting. I wish I would have known to do it sooner. I think I would bring so many more new ideas since it is my first year running. I also understand people and what they want. A big reason I am doing this is because I wanted to have fun my last year of high school,” Luz Matos (11) said.
Becoming an officer comes with lots of responsibilities, wishes to fulfill, and people to make happy. Lancers should take time to consider if they would like to run in the future. It takes time to make sure the school is active and safe.
“I went for SBO president because I am going to bring new ideas, bring other officers together, and reflect our positivity towards the school to make it more hype and united. Being the president means having lots of responsibilities, focusing more on school, being a good role model, and bringing the student body together at all costs,” Cinthya Garcia (11) said.
