Class Selection

Class+Selection

A couple of weeks ago, Lancers selected their classes for next school year. Class selection is important and something everyone should take seriously. However, a significant number of students choose random classes to get registration over with fast.

A fast selection might save time today, but Ms. Winter has a very good point when she says that students should make class selections carefully. She suggests that Lancers take classes that interest them and that will help them with their goals and future careers. “It’s a great time to try something out. If it was college, it would cost you a lot of money if you changed your mind. And if you do enjoy it, then it can help kick off a future career,” Winters said.

Kato Makoni (11) is really good at soccer and basketball, also intelligent, and overall, a very kind person. She is planning on getting a scholarship from soccer and majoring in physiology. She chose classes associated with her future career: athletic classes, and art, which will help her have some fun in her last year of high school.

“I’m low-key not ready for my senior year at all,” Makoni said. “I should have taken more advantage of my high school years, junior high years, and elementary years because it all goes by fast. I’m ready to graduate and go to college but, in reality, I’m scared to do anything out of my high school life.”

Another junior who is anxious for senior year is Aisha Alavez (11). “I’m nervous for my senior year because it’s my last year in high school. It’s scary because I need to start focusing on my future,” Alavez said.

Some classes that Allyson Lopez (9) chose were AP world history modern, competitive athletics, independent study, and commercial photography. She chose these classes for numerous reasons. “My friend recommended that I give myself a more challenging experience, so I can become more responsible and confident with my classes,” Lopez said. “I feel like this is a huge opportunity for me to stay organized and create smart goals. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be hard, but then I’ll get the hang of it, so I’m really excited,” Lopez said. She is going to have a busy year, but she also is very excited about her classes and future.

Elizabeth Colorado (10) is taking Ms. Winters advice and is choosing courses that will help her kick off her future career. She chose a couple of CE classes, art classes, and some GTI courses.

“I chose these classes because I think it’s gonna help me get ahead in credits. It will also set the foundation for what I want to do career-wise or at least help me gain experience,” Colorado said. She is thinking about the long run like college, and she is taking steps to succeed in her goals.

The choices many students made a couple of weeks ago are already updated in Focus. Whether a student puts thoughts into the decisions they made while choosing their classes or not, the outcome is already visible. A very popular course many students are looking forward to is ceramics because it is a fun elective art credit. These courses can help Lancers explore their hobbies and interests, which can lead students into a bright future.
